Why was it bounced?  Tail your qmail-send logs to see why

Not that it matters, but I usually have the mail file structure as
  ./Maildir/
  ./Maildir/.whatever/

What do you have in your LDAP attribute for that user?  Is there a
"username-whatever@xxxxxxxxxx" mailalternateaddress, or a
"username-catchall@xxxxxxxxxx"?  The former will just get -whatever
while the later will get -anything.

Did you enable the -extension ability in the Makefile?
