I added the ".po" file updates, so this patch is noticeably larger.  Most of
the other changes since the 16g patch are build fixes.  There are a couple
of platforms that aren't quite right yet (Tru64 doesn't get the screensize,
and AIX 4 gets confused by an alloca() function that we cannot use).

I'd like to keep upcoming changes limited to build fixes like those (new
features can wait for 2.8.6 - I have my own list of things I'd like to do).
