Pilot: Pilot Survey Results
This letter is to let all of those that didn't leave me a valid e-mail
address (59 of the 389 thus far).
I've been posting results for a couple of weeks now. I wanted to wait
until I stopped getting responses before posting to the newsgroups or
this mailing list. While I am still getting the occasional response,
it has dropped to one or two a day.
As time goes by, and more applications are released, the survey gets
more and more out of date, so it is my intention at this point to
close it off. If there is interest in an updated survey, or something
similiar, I certainly wouldn't mind doing this again. It was a little
more work than I thought it would be (almost 400 responses in a little
over two weeks), but it wasn't anything overwhelming.
For those of you that haven't seen them yet, the current standing are
posted:

For those of you that would like a quick and dirty, here it is:
- 55% of those surveyed bought a pilot 5000.
- 78% use their pilot for both Business and Pleasure.
- 52% have 512K of memory, with 29% having 1MB.
- 58% use the case that came with the pilot, with 20% using the Slim
Leather case.
- Only 16% use writerights for screen protection, with a whopping 64%
of pilot owners using no screen protection at all!
- 45% of us have bought our pilot in the last two months (28% in the
last month)
- Only 11% have returned their pilot for repair.
- 90%(!) use the stylus that came with the pilot (it is handy, most
admit)
- The most installed application is Dinky Pad, with Graffiti Help
second and PocketChess third.
- The favorite application seems to be Dinky Pad, with PilotMoney (got
it right this time), Klondike, and PocketChess next.
- The pilot is the first PDA for 65% of us.
- The buttons stick for 37% of us.
- Batteries for 40% of us last from one to one 1/2 months, while 23%
are still on our first set!
- and last, 62% of those that responded to the survey aren't on the
pilot mailing list (or weren't when they took the survey).
I hope that all of you enjoy reading these results as much as I do.

It was fun.
