Some have reported that the newer models "seem" to have a better screen.
This has not been confirmed in any way, just rumor. You might go to your
local CompUSA or Circuit City and compare the two, just for the heck of it.

Well, to upgrade to the 1MB for either of the two models you have to take
out the existing memory module and replace it with the 1MB memory module.
This means that if you pay $299 for the 1000 model with 128K and upgrade to
1MB it will be the exact same thing if you pay $369 for the 5000 model with
512K and upgrade to 1MB. You might be able to sell the 512K memory module,
but wouldn't it be easier just to buy the 1MB upgrade for the 1000 module?
You would save $69 dollars right off the bat. It's not like you will fill
the 128K up before the week it takes you to buy the 1MB memory module anyway.

Companies usually announce that stuff at Comdex. There is one coming up
pretty soon this fall.
